The problem

Where did we put that certificate?

Your staff may all have Smart Serve. But when it's time to check a renewal date or pull a refusal log, the records are spread across binders, inboxes, and boxes under the desk.

Today

  • Smart Serve certificates photocopied into a binder, some expired and nobody noticed
  • No refusal or incident log, or one that hasn't been written in for months
  • Liquor purchase invoices in a box under the desk
  • New hire started serving last week. No Smart Serve on file.
  • Security staff licence numbers not recorded anywhere
  • Area manager has no visibility into which sites are up to date

With Duty Room

  • Live liquor records per site
  • Smart Serve expiry tracked per employee with five-year renewal reminders
  • Refusal and incident log with timestamps and detail
  • Purchase records organised and retained for the required one-year period
  • One shared view for the owner and area manager
  • Export or share in one click

1. Based on 26-day mean AGCO suspension duration (40 enforcement actions, 2017–2021) applied to $849,200 average annual revenue per food-service establishment (ISED/Statistics Canada NAICS 7225, 2024). Source: AGCO quarterly decision summaries; ISED Canadian Industry Statistics.

Questions & Answers

How long does setup take?

Under 10 minutes. Activate liquor compliance, invite your team, and your first records are ready the same day.

Do I need to be technical?

No. If your team can use a phone, they can use Duty Room.

Does Smart Serve really expire now?

Yes. Since 2022, Smart Serve certificates expire every five years. Duty Room tracks the expiry date for every certified employee and reminds you before renewal is due.

Is a refusal log legally required?

Not explicitly. The law doesn't require one outright, but Smart Serve training tells operators to keep one, and AGCO inspectors often look for it. Keeping an organised log can be useful if a licence matter comes up.

What about AGCO youth compliance monitors?

The AGCO sends 16-to-18-year-olds to attempt purchases and test whether your staff check ID. A clear refusal log and current Smart Serve certificates give you a record of how your team handles these moments.

What happens when regulations change?

We keep our starter blueprints up to date as AGCO rules change. You and your adviser decide what to adopt for your sites.

Where is my data stored?

Canadian-hosted infrastructure. Your data stays in Canada.

Is this proof of legal compliance?

No. Duty Room gives you organised records of the training, refusals, purchases, and licence conditions you've set up. Whether those records meet your obligations is between you, your licence, and the AGCO.

What can I export if I leave?

Everything. Your data is yours.
